Thursday, November 21, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb announced the awarding of $6.3 million in grants to expand broadband service to Benton, Floyd, and Jackson Counties. The grants are part of the $100 million Next Level Broadband program administered by the state. These projects will bring service to over 5,000 unserved households and close to 1,000 unserved businesses.

Mainstream Fiber is honored and excited to be the recipients of the awards to help service Benton & Floyd Counties with reliable broadband access. This is the core of our mission: to bring affordable, reliable broadband service into underserved areas.

Floyd and Benton County is one of the key beneficiaries of this initiative, set to receive crucial support to improve its broadband infrastructure.

A New Era of Connectivity for Floyd and Benton County

The grant awarded to Floyd and Benton County is designed to address the significant gaps in broadband service that have long hindered the area's growth and development. With over $6.3 million allocated to this region, the funding will facilitate the expansion of high-speed internet to both residential and business sectors that currently lack reliable access. This transformative project will connect thousands of homes and businesses, providing them with the high-speed internet needed to thrive in today’s digital world.

Impact on Local Communities

The expansion of broadband service in Floyd and Benton County will have a profound impact on local communities. Improved internet connectivity will support various facets of daily life, including:

  • Education: Enhanced access to online educational resources and tools will benefit students and educators alike, ensuring that learning can continue uninterrupted, even from home.

  • Healthcare: Telehealth services will become more accessible, allowing residents to consult with healthcare professionals remotely, which is especially important for those in rural areas.

  • Economic Development: Reliable internet will foster growth for local businesses by enabling e-commerce, digital marketing, and remote work opportunities, thus contributing to the economic vitality of the region.

  • Community Engagement: Better connectivity will enhance residents' ability to participate in online civic activities, social media, and local virtual events, helping to strengthen community bonds.

As we are in the very preliminary stages of this project, information regarding the service route and timeline is not currently available. We will continue to update the Benton & Floyd County pages of our website as our work progresses.
